We started out with Sandra and Jemma at the helm, a mother and daughter team offering a range of hairdressing services and holistic therapies. Since then, we have grown our team and our service offering to make sure we have a competitive range of services for ladies and men in the Orpington area.
Sandra specialises in holistic therapies and is always keen to make sure her clients feel welcome and comfortable. Jemma originally managed a busy salon in Bromley as well as working with a range of mobile clients. When opening the salon, she wanted to make sure people would feel that coming in was just as comfortable and enjoyable as having their hair done at home.
Sandra and her two daughters all now work for Serenity, with Kate carrying out the bookkeeping – it is a real family affair!

Jemma Gear
Salon Co-owner, Manager and Senior Stylist
I own and run Serenity Hair and Beauty, along with my mum Sandra who is a holistic therapist. I see my own clients, manage other members of staff, whilst also keeping everything running smoothly in the salon.
I love working with my clients and really focus on the customer service I provide. A lot of my clients have been coming to me for years and I enjoy building up the relationship and trust. I adapt to every client and their own personal preferences – some people love to chat, and others want to enjoy the experience and relax.
People think hairdressing is a really glamorous job, but I can assure you that it’s a lot of hard work – and you definitely need good maths, English and science skills as well! I had my first experience of hairdressing whilst I was 15 and still at school, and I was then offered a Saturday job in the same salon. I now have my NVQ Levels 2 and 3 in Hairdressing, Barbering, Colour Correction and Assessment of Knowledge, and NVQ Level 4 in Internal Quality Assurance, as well as a qualification in First Aid. I was working as a Salon Manager for around 5 years before I decided to open Serenity. I take the development of my team very seriously and am always encouraging their professional development.
I live in Beckenham, not far from Serenity, and when I’m not at work I’m usually spending time with my husband and two children, going to the gym or socialising with friends.
Sandra Mockridge
Salon Co-owner, Holistic therapist
I own the salon with my daughter, Jemma, and am also Serenity’s holistic therapist, carrying out reiki, massage, reflexology and ear candling. I also carry out beauty treatments for our clients, including facials, waxing, tanning, eyebrow shaping, eyebrow tinting and lash tinting. As a family business, we all look after the salon together, taking responsibility for the day-to-day running – Jemma is my daughter and we have been in business together for more than 7 years now.
I love helping my clients to relax. It’s very rewarding to be able to help them improve their external appearance, whilst also allowing them to achieve calmness and relaxation. I like people to leave the salon feeling happy and uplifted and we pride ourselves on creating a warm, friendly atmosphere where people feel completely at home. I have great empathy with the people I meet and care deeply about their emotional welfare.
I got into holistic therapy approximately 12 years ago, after I experienced the benefits of healing for myself. I then trained in spiritual healing, massage and reflexology whilst working as a book-keeper for a construction company and as a part time carer as well.
I live locally in Bromley and the salon keeps me very busy! When I’m not here, I will usually be spending time with my family, especially my five grandchildren.
Julia Hopwood
Beauty Therapist and Nail technician
I am an experienced Beauty Therapist and Nail technician at Serenity. I have been in the Beauty Industry for over 15 years and during this time I have developed my skills and knowledge with continuous professional development and have achieved qualifications with several leading professional skin care houses including Dermalogica, Decleor and achieving student of the year with Guinot.
I have worked in spas and beauty salons and enjoy offering a wide range of treatments. Beauty is a ever changing fast paced industry and at Serenity our training is ongoing and our focus is on our clients receiving the very best treatments and advice.
Louise Elimlahi
Stylist
As a stylist, I am new to the salon but I have always wanted to become a Hairstylist from a young age. I thought I had left it to late until I decided to bite the bullet and sin up to a combined NVQ 2/3 Hairdressing and Barbering Qualification at Serenity Academy, it was the best occupational decision I have ever made and I feel passionately about my role. I love being a Hairdresser and one of my highlights of the job is seeing my clients leave the salon happy. Although I still have a lot to learn I am excited about the journey ahead in becoming the stylist I desire to be making sure I keep up with the latest trends.
